The Gibraltar volleyball team advanced to Saturday's regional final in Green Bay Thursday night with a three-set sweep of Gresham on the road.
The Vikings took the match 25-17, 25-13, 28-26. The Vikings dominated from the service line, serving at a 95 percent clip while delivering 11 aces.
The Vikings were led by Ella Clarke (19 kills, 2 blocks, 7 digs, 2 aces), Azucena Jauregui (13 kills, 2 aces, 3 assists, 16 digs), Isla Fagundes (37 assists, 10 digs, 2 aces), and Megan Schar (8 kills, 9 digs, 1 block).
Head coach Lauren Ward said that her squad entered the night with a ton of energy and "got the job done efficiently" thanks to Fagundes connecting beautifully with Azucena Jauregui and Clarke all night as the pair racked up 32 of the team's 46 kills. "With consistent tough serving and a fire in the belly, the girls stepped onto the court with grit and didn’t look back," Ward said. Even when things got shaky in the third set, Ward applauded her team for their resiliency. "It was a fun night and a good win. I’m proud of the intensity and joy they brought to the semifinals."
The Vikings will play conference foe NEW Lutheran for the regional title Saturday night in Green Bay.
