New looking Vikings throttled by Blazers on 105.1 The GOAT

A new look Gibraltar football team showed their inexperience on Friday night in a 62-6 loss to NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy at Oneida Nation.

The extra week was not enough for the Vikings to rid themselves of the injuries sustained against Algoma and Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas. As a result, several players were thrust into new roles against the Blazers. It reared its head in the first quarter as the Vikings lost two fumbles and Luke Pelkey threw an interception on their first three possessions. The Blazers took advantage, with Hayden Schultz throwing a pair of touchdowns to Rick Kaske III on either side of his 28-yard touchdown run to make it 24-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The two teams traded empty possessions before Schultz scored from 60 yards out and Andrew Kim scored from 12 yards out to extend the Blazers' lead to 40-0. The Vikings had their biggest play of the game after the Kim touchdown with Landon Pelkey taking the kickoff 80 yards to the end zone to make it 40-6 at the break.

A 50-yard touchdown run by Schultz pushed the game to a running clock for the rest of the game in the third quarter, with the Blazers leading 48-6. The Blazers added a fumble return for a touchdown by Jimmy Hoiska and another Schultz touchdown run to make it 62-6. Brady White nearly got the Vikings back into the end zone, but was tackled short of the goal line before the game ended on an interception.

The Vikings will try to get healthier ahead of their homecoming matchup with Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah next Friday. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m.
