The Gibraltar/Washington Island baseball team hopes the third time is the charm on Tuesday morning in Rosholt when they play Rib Lake in the WIAA Sectional Semifinal.
The Vikings enter the game 20-6 on the season and riding a 12-game winning streak into Rosholt. In their 10-4 regional final win over Florence, Aaron Brey led all batters with three hits and two RBI in four at-bats, including a two-run home run. Luke Rericha added two hits while Charlie Reinhardt (2), Cam Munao, Owen Dannhausen, Emerson, Mason Grooms, and Mason Isaacson-Krueger recorded RBI. Hobbs Emerson earned the win on the mound, going 5.2 innings allowing three runs (1 ER) on four hits while striking out six. Brey is the likely starter in game one after going six shutout innings with 12 strikeouts in a 10-0 win against Prentice.

While the Vikings' perennial stumbling block in Pacelli was elevated to Division 3 this season, Rib Lake poses to be an equally formidable opponent in the sectional semifinal. The Redmen are 19-5-1 and have won nine in a row dating back to early May. Blake Henderson leads the team in batting average (.441) while Ethan Cook has a team-high 28 RBI thanks to 10 extra base hits including eight doubles. The Redmen have two good pitchers to choose from with Seth Borchardt (1.39 ERA) and Slade Scheithauer (1.88 ERA) both with an earned run average under 2.00.
The Vikings and the Redmen will duel at Rosholt Village Park at 10 a.m. with coverage on 105.1 The GOAT with Tim Kowols beginning at 9:45 a.m.
