Vikings baseball sink Bucs, face Wildcats in regional final on 105.1 The GOAT

A 10-0 win over Prentice on Tuesday set up a chance at a third straight regional title for Gibraltar/Washington Island when they host Florence on Wednesday.

The Vikings jumped on Buccaneers starter Ryder Jones immediately, registering five straight hits to start the first inning, including doubles from Aaron Brey and Hobbs Emerson, to stake them to a 5-0 lead.

As Ryder settled, Brey never gave in, striking out two batters in every inning and a pair of singles his lone blemishes through four innings. The Vikings staged another rally in the fourth inning with Cam Munao and Brey hitting back-to-back RBI doubles as they put up another four runs to make 9-0 entering the fifth inning.

A triple by Hardy Hueckman put the shutout in peril in the sixth inning, but Brey was able to retire the next two men to preserve his pitching line of no runs on three hits with 12 strikeouts. The Vikings would record two singles to start the bottom of the sixth inning before the Buccaneers intentionally walked Emerson to get to Wyatt Bultman, who ended the game on an RBI single.

Munao finished the day 4-4 with one RBI to lead the Vikings at the plate. Owen Dannhausen and Luke Rericha each recorded three hits while Brey went 2-4 with two RBI. Seven of the nine starters recorded at least one hit and six posted at least one RBI in the win.

The Vikings will now host Florence on Wednesday after they beat Lena 12-2 in six innings. A game mired with nine errors, the Bobcats turned a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the fifth into a 7-2 lead heading into the sixth inning before reaching the mercy rule with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Logan McCoy and Bradley Steber each had one hit and two RBI in the Bobcats win.

Tim Kowols will have the call of the regional final on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m. The winner of the game advances to next Tuesday's sectional in Rosholt
