The Gibraltar softball team could not dig out of a 10-1 first inning hole in their 18-8 loss to Hilbert on Monday.
After the Vikings got on the board with a Gabby Solomon' RBI single in the top of the first inning, the defense committed three errors while allowing six hits to the Wolves in what proved to be a big swing in the game. The two teams would trade runs the rest of the way with the Wolves outscoring the Vikings 8-7 from the second inning on. The Vikings made their biggest stand in the fourth inning when they scored five runs thanks to RBI doubles from Olivia Pelkey, Mia Glocke, and Isla Fagundes before Megan Gallant capped off the frame with a run-scoring single. The game ended in the fifth inning when the Wolves responded to a run scored by the Vikings with two of their own in the bottom of the frame.
Glocke and Ashlyn Lautenbach each posted two hits while Marin Gransee led the team with two RBI. Emilie Glocke took the loss from the circle, allowing 10 runs (2 ER) on six hits and two walks while striking out one in the first inning.
