Bultman, Vikings baseball claw past Cougars on 105.1 The GOAT

Deficits of 3-0, 4-2, and 5-4 were not enough to take the Gibraltar baseball team on Friday afternoon as they plated three in the seventh inning to escape Coleman with a 7-5 win.

After a scoreless first inning, the Cougars used two hits, three walks, and an error to take a 3-0 lead with a Gavin Pusick single igniting the rally. The Vikings were able to get two of those runs back in the top of the third inning courtesy of Luke Rericha's two-RBI single that was preceded by three consecutive walks. The Cougars answered quickly, however, when Kollin Peters took home on a wild pitch to make it a 4-2 game.

It would stay that way until the sixth inning when Hobbs Emerson and Wyatt Bultman slugged back-to-back doubles to score one run, and an error off the bat of Miles Richmond brought home a second run to tie the game at 4-4.

As they did earlier in the game, the Cougars posted a retort in their half of the inning courtesy of an RBI single from Cole Berth to give his team a slim 5-4 advantage heading in the top of the seventh inning. The Vikings would come up big in the latter innings once again, thanks to three straight singles from Aaron Brey, Rericha, and Owen Dannhausen pushing across the tying run. An RBI single from Bultman and a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Charlie Reinhardt gave the Vikings a two-run lead they would not give up.

After issuing a leadoff walk, Bultman retired the final three batters to record the save. Bultman ended his day going 3-3 and two RBI while three other players registered at least one RBI.

The Vikings go back to work on Saturday when they travel to Brussels for a doubleheader against Southern Door at 11 a.m. The Eagles enter the day 0-3 on the season in search of their first runs scored after shutout losses to Luxemburg-Casco, Kiel, and Reedsville.
