Jets soar past Gibraltar softball

Five runs in the fifth inning ended Gibraltar’s hopes of a comeback as Roncalli defeated the Vikings 11-1 in five innings Monday evening.

The Jets scored three runs in the first inning, but the Vikings got one back in the third. After Eternity Cunningham was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball, she scored on an Olivia Pelkey single to make it 3-1. Gabby Solomon followed with a single, and the pair moved into scoring position with two outs on another passed ball. The threat ended when Emilie Glocke grounded out to shortstop to close the inning.

The Vikings put two baserunners aboard in both the fourth and fifth innings but could not capitalize. Meanwhile, the Jets scored twice in the third and once in the fourth before a five-run fifth inning put the game away early.

Glocke took the loss, allowing eight runs (five earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out four in 3 1/3 innings. Her sister, Mia, finished the game in the circle, allowing three runs (none earned) on one hit and one walk.

Emily Schultz led the Jets, going 1 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Bailey Keller earned the win, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out eight.
