The Gibraltar baseball team hopes to continue the positive vibes from Saturday when they face Xavier on the road on Monday afternoon.
The Vikings responded to a 18-4 drubbing at the hands of Oconto Falls with a pair of close wins against conference rivals Algoma 3-1 and 10-9. In game one,
Game one was a pitcher's duel from start to finish. Jacob Massey was outstanding for the Wolves, going five and two-thirds innings, allowing just two hits while striking out 13. Algoma actually out-hit Gibraltar four to two on the day, but Gibraltar's Aaron Brey was equally sharp, going six and two-thirds innings with 14 strikeouts. Algoma drew first blood in the third when Massey drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, but Gibraltar took the lead for good in the sixth on a two-run single by Owen Dannhausen. In game two, Algoma out-hit Gibraltar ten to nine and drew 10 walks, but a stunning seven-run seventh inning by Gibraltar erased what looked like a sure Wolves win. Gibraltar answered right back in the bottom half, putting up seven of their own, with the winning run coming on a walk-off single by Cam Munao.
The Hawks are off to a slow start with a record of 2-4. In their last game, the Hawks' five errors outweighed their 6-5 advantage in hits as they lost to Eastern 10-3. Matt Potter posted two hits while Quinn Comerford drove in two of the team's three runs. Kyler Bleck took the loss, allowing four runs (3 ER) on three hits and three walks while striking out three.
Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
