Vikings boys travel to Peshtigo to face Bulldogs

The Gibraltar Vikings boys basketball team look to stretch their winning streak to three games on Friday when they make the trip around the bay to face the Peshtigo Bulldogs.

In their last game, the Vikings beat Gillett 70-40 in front of their home fans in Fish Creek. The Vikings opened the game with a 14-2 run over a three-minute span, outscoring the Tigers 41-30 in the first half. Kayin Jackson led the Vikings with 15 points, while Marco Jauregui added 14 and Aaron Brey chipped in 13 in the victory. Brody Halla and Henry Schaal each scored 10 points to pace the Tigers in the loss.

The Bulldogs have won six games in a row since losing to Menominee on January 15th. That stretch includes wins over Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, Algoma, Marinette, and Sevastopol. Dominik Baxter leads the team in scoring (20.9 ppg) while Levi Hodgins averages a double-double with 16.9 ppg and 12.9 rpg.

In their last meeting on December 12th, the back-and-forth affair saw the Vikings take a 25-23 lead into the break. The Bulldogs held a lead late, but Marco Jauregui triggered two steals in the final three minutes, setting up Kayin Jackson to score six straight points to take the game away from its visitors for a 47-45 victory. Head coach Travis Ward said that controlling Baxter was key in the game as he was held to just five points.
