Vikings girls struggle in loss to Blue Devils on 105.1 The GOAT

The Oconto girls basketball team took advantage of Gibraltar's lack of depth as they took control early and never let go in a 57-11 win Monday night.

The Vikings struggled to get their offense going against the Blue Devils as they fought through press defenses away from the basketball and size underneath. Megan Schar broke up a 17-0 run by the Blue Devils to start the game with a free throw after nearly 12 minutes of game action. The Blue Devils went on a 12-0 run to end the half as they entered the locker room up 29-1.

The Blue Devils kept the offense going in the second half despite a constantly changing cast of characters. The Vikings were eventually able to make shots from the field, beginning with a pair of layups made by Emilie Glocke.

The Blue Devils were led by Natalie Schlueter's 15 points and 13 bench points from Kara TerMaat. The Vikings mustered four points apiece from Glocke and Schar, two points from Josie Martin, and one point from Megan Gallant. Head coach Justin Burress said after the game that the girls played hard, but they could not compete with their short bench.

The Vikings are back at it on Friday when they welcome Peshtigo to Fish Creek for a 7 p.m. tip.
