Vikings softball begins WIAA Tournament run Thursday on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar/Washington Island softball team will turn its attention to the new season on Thursday when it travels to St. Mary Catholic in Neenah to open the 2025 WIAA Tournament.

The Vikings finished 3-13 on the season, ending the season on a high note with a split against NEW Lutheran. That is tied for the third-highest win total for the program since 2017. Manager Brandon Schmidt is proud of where the team has gone in year two of his rebuilding of the program, saying the team has become more competitive even in its losses. He is encouraged by the program's direction even if the record doesn't show it.

The Zephyrs' record is only marginally better at 4-15, going 1-9 in their last 10 games. Three of their four wins have been at home this season.

The winner of Thursday's game will travel to Algoma for the regional semifinal on Tuesday.

Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
