Vikings softball split against Blazers

The Gibraltar/Washington Island softball team earned its third win of the season as part of a twinbill split against NEW Lutheran on Thursday.

In their 12-8 loss, the Vikings committed eight errors, leading to six unearned runs. The Blazers scored in every inning but the fifth inning as they out hit the Vikings 15-8. The Vikings did score at least one run in each of the final four innings, including three in the fourth to answer a five-run frame by the Blazers and two runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Isla Fagundes, Celeste Ashley, and Mia Glocke each had two RBI in the loss while eight different Vikings registered at least one hit, including doubles by Emilie Glocke and Fagundes. The Glocke sisters combined to strike out five while allowing 12 runs (6 ER) on 15 hits and four walks.

In their 8-7 win, the Vikings nearly saw a 7-0 lead disappear before the game was called in the fifth inning due to storms. The Vikings took advantage of two errors and three hit batsmen to score three runs in the first inning and two walks and an error in the second inning to score another three runs. A fifth inning RBI flyout by Addison Richmond proved to be the game winner as a three-run rally by the Blazers in the bottom of the inning was cut short. Mia Glocke recorded both hits for the Vikings while Richmond drove in three runs.
