Vikings baseball falls to Clippers, face Indians Friday

The Gibraltar/Washington Island baseball team's busy week continues Friday and Saturday after the lost to Sturgeon Bay 7-6.

 

The Vikings found themselves in trouble early, as they gave up three runs in the second inning. A single by Bryce Plzak drove in two runs for the Clippers, and Patrick Haese took home on a double steal. The two teams traded three runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth, leaving the Vikings still trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Aaron Brey led off with a double and was helped along on an error before scoring on a single from Cam Munao. After two more singles from Jaxin Lindgren and Wyatt Bultman, Liam Lindenberg grounded out to score a run. With two men on, Plzak was able to induce Hobbs Emerson into a groundout to earn the save for Siggy Hansen.

 

The Plzak brothers combined for four base hits and three RBI in the win, with Hansen and Ethan Kratcha also getting on base with hits. Munao led the way for the Vikings with two hits and three RBI while Brady Kita registered two hits and one RBI.

 

The Vikings are back in action Friday afternoon when they host Mishicot at 4 p.m. The Indians come into the matchup 6-13 and losers of four straight. During the skid, they have been shut out twice. The Vikings will then take their bags, hop on the ferry and play Clintonville on Washington Island for an 11 a.m. tilt. The Truckers have struggled this season as they were a doubleheader split of Marinette away from losing their last 14 games.
