Vikings baseball rebounds to earn split vs. Blue Devils

The Gibraltar/Washington Island baseball team bounced back from a 2-0 loss in game one to win the second game 5-3 on the road at Oconto.

In game one, the game was scoreless until Joseph Bailey broke the 0-0 tie with a RBI single. It spoiled an otherwise strong start from Aaron Brey, who allowed two runs (2 ER) on eight hits while striking out four. Bennett Isaacson-Krueger, Cam Munao, and Luke Rericha registered the only hits for the Vikings in the loss.

In the second game, both teams wasted no time scoring, but it was the Vikings that scored at least one run in each of the first three innings, eventually taking a 4-2 lead. The Vikings grinded out the runs, scoring on two fielder's choices and an error. They added an important insurance run in the fifth inning when Jaxin Lindgren singled in Owen Dannhausen. Brady Kita, Aaron Brey, Owen Dannhausen, Lindgren, and Luke Rericha all registered hits in the game with Rericha collecting two RBI along the way. Kita earned the win while Brey came in relief for the save. The two combined to strike out four while allowing three runs (3 ER) across seven innings. Garrett Goetsch led the Blue Devils with two RBI.
