Brey's gem leads Vikings past Bulldogs on 105.1 the GOAT

Gibraltar/Washington Island's Aaron Brey had a no-hitter into the fifth inning and plenty of runs in the bank as the Vikings won their 11th game in a row, beating Peshtigo 8-1 Friday evening.

Brey helped his own cause in the first inning with a RBI groundout to drive in Brady Kita to make it 1-0 in the first inning. With Jaxin Lindgren and Liam Lindenberg on base, Kita followed a passed ball with a single that drove in a pair to make it 3-0. In the third inning, Brey and Owen Dannhausen hit back-to-back doubles to pad their lead even more to 5-0.

Brey's perfect game bid came to an end in the fourth inning on a throwing error, but two strikeouts helped keep the no-hitter and the shutout intact. In the bottom half of the inning, Brey made the Bulldogs pay for back-to-back errors with a double down the line to make it 7-0. The Bulldogs would finally get to Brey in the fifth inning when Ethan LaComb followed a Brayden Denowski single with a RBI double to put the team's first run on the board. The Vikings got the run back in the sixth inning when Lindenberg drove Cam Munao in on a sacrifice fly. Kita finished the game off for Brey in relief, striking out a pair to secure the win.

Kita, Brey, and Dannhausen had two hits apiece in the game, with Kita and Brey boasting multi-RBI games. Not lost on Brey was the impact of the defense behind him while on the mound, pointing Bennett Isaacson-Krueger's defense at short and a couple of highlight reel grabs from Munao.

On Tuesday, the Vikings are back in action when they travel to Sturgeon Bay to face the Clippers, which beat Southern Door on Friday, 6-2. Tim Kowols will have the call from Sturgeon Bay on 105.1. The GOAT will begin at 4:15 p.m., with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
