Gorham's milestone shines through Vikings' loss on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar girls basketball team was able to look to its senior star as a bright spot in its 68-36 season-ending loss to Niagara in the first round of the WIAA Division 5 Girls Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.

The Vikings struggled to find an offensive groove for much of the game, battling foul trouble and a swarming Badgers defense that forced several turnovers on both sides of the court. The Badgers held the Vikings scoreless for the game's first four minutes, allowing Mallory Sanicki and Alivia Kleikamp to show off their offensive prowess. Anna Jarosh got the Vikings onto the scoreboard and sparked a mini-rally before another offensive drought later in the half placed them into a hole they would never recover from. Mikala Gorham would end the half strong for the Vikings, but the team entered the locker room down 35-18.

The Badgers started to stretch their lead even more early in the second half thanks to stingy defense and offensive rebounding, which allowed them multiple opportunities to put up points. Gorham would finally get her breakthrough later in the frame to put herself in Gibraltar lore by scoring her 1000th point on an And-One opportunity.

The play gave the Vikings some extra life later in the half, but the Sanicki sisters combined to hit five three-pointers in the frame, not allowing the Badgers to be put away by the Vikings for a second year in a row. Mallory Sanicki led all scorers with 19 points for the Badgers, with Kleikamp adding 13 points and two other players contributing nine. Gorham's career ends with 1,002 points to her name, scoring 13 points in the season finale. Fellow senior Anna Jarosh scored eight points, and Celeste Jauregui chipped in with six points.

The Vikings end the year with a 4-20 mark, including 1-15 in the Packerland Conference.
