For a third straight year, extending the season will down to a night in Niagara as the Gibraltar Vikings girls basketball team hit the road to face the Badgers.
It's a tale of two streaks for the Vikings and the Badgers. The Vikings enter the game on a three-game losing streak and a stretch where they have dropped 10 of their last 12 games. The team has played teams closer the second time around this season, but have not been able to experience the fruits of that labor. One of the bright spots this season has been Mikala Gorham, who leads the team with 13.9 points per game and is tied with Anna Jarosh for the lead in rebounds with 5.3 rpg. Gorham enters the game 11 points short of 1,000 points for her career.
The Badgers are winners of their last seven games, six of which have been by double figures. Mallory Sanicky leads the team with over 13 ppg, but teammates Alivia Kleikamp and Bristol Sanicky are right there at 9.2 ppg.
The last two seasons have come down to these two teams as an opening round matchup. Last year, Andie Schar scored 15 points and Gorham added 10 points in a 45-43 win for the Vikings. The previous year, it was Josie Rock's 17 points that sprung the Badgers past the Vikings 48-32 as they outscored Gibraltar by 14 points in the second half.
Tim Kowols will have the call from Niagara on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.
