Vikings girls head to tournament on down note vs. Tigers

A new season begins on Tuesday for the Gibraltar girls basketball team after they lost to Gillett 54-27 on Thursday.

 

The Vikings found themselves down 35-13 heading into the locker room after suffering two scoreless droughts of at least four minutes, while the Tigers could rack up points. The two sides had more of a seesaw battle in the second half with the Vikings' Mikala Gorham and the Tigers' Hope Soper dueling. Gorham led the Vikings with 15 points while Abby Jarosh and Celeste Jauregui each chipped in three points. Audrey Pate led all scorers with 22 points, scoring 16 of those points in the first half for the Tigers. Soper added 12 points and Lily Hausen chipped in seven points.

 

The Vikings will be back in action on Tuesday when they open the WIAA Division 5 Tournament in Niagara. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the tip-off at 7 p.m.
