The Gibraltar girls basketball team found themselves down by 30 heading into the second half as they went on to lose 61-29 Saturday afternoon in Fish Creek.
Celeste Jauregui scored the first and only basket from the field with 6:46 remaining in the first half. Josie Martin and Anna Jarosh did the rest of the work from the free-throw line as the Rebels built a 36-6 lead at halftime. The two teams played closer in the second half, with the Rebels outscoring the Vikings 25-23 after the break.
The Rebels had six players score at least seven points, led by Holly Gilligan with 12 points. Mikala Gorham went from being shut out in the first half to leading the Vikings with 11 points. Megan Schar chipped in seven points, while Anna and Abby Jarosh each had three points in the loss.
The Vikings are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Institute to face Sevastopol. Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 7 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the tip off at 7:15 p.m.
