United Falls to Clippers on U-102.1

Gibraltar/Sevastopol United boys varsity soccer valiantly battled back from a deep deficit, but ultimately lost to the Sturgeon Bay Clippers 3-2 in Packerland Conference action on Monday, September 30 in Fish Creek.

The loss drops United to 6-3 for the regular season.

The Clippers took the early lead on a goal by senior forward Kayden Klotz in the 17th minute. Junior Zone Wienke netted the second Clippers goal near the end of the first half (37').

Daniel Wienke scored a third Sturgeon Bay goal in the second half on a cross from fellow sophomore Finn Stephenson (53').

Down 3-0, United finally got on the board with a goal by senior Cristino Valdivia on a cross from junior Brandon Mayorga (58'). United senior Tyler Grooters scored in the 65th minute, which boosted the United team and the home crowd. United made several more strong runs but couldn't net an equalizer before time expired.

The remainder of the week for United brings an away Packerland Conference game at the Algoma Wolves on Thursday, October 3 at 4 p.m., and a non-conference 3 p.m. matchup at Appleton West High School on Saturday, October 5.

The Clippers, now four points clear of the United in the Packerland Conference standings, are back in action on October 3rd when they host Kewaunee for a 6:30 p.m. match.
