Gibraltar/Sevastopol United varsity boys soccer cruised to victory over Packerland Conference foes the Peshtigo Bulldogs Thursday evening, defeating the hosts 6-1. The victory for United comes after a non-conference loss Tuesday to Ashwaubenon, 0-1.
In Peshtigo, Junior Mauricio Fernandez opened the gates for United early (7’) with an assist from Senior Cristino Valdivia. Junior Brandon Mayorga was next (17’), followed by Junior Zaul Valdivia (30’) with an assisting pass from Mayorga. Junior Damien Lardinois was the scoring leader for United, netting a big header (31’) on a cross by Zaul Valdivia, with two more goals in succession to close the first half (32’ and 39’) and register the hat trick.
The highlight for the Bulldogs was a late breakaway goal in the second half scored by freshman Chayce Wesoloski (67').
United has a week-long break from competition. They return to home turf in Fish Creek next Thursday, September 19, at 6:30 p.m. for a Homecoming Week conference tilt against Kewaunee. United then heads to Wrightstown for tournament play on Saturday, September 21.
