The Gibraltar Vikings football team will head to Oneida Nation to face Oneida Nation/NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy on Friday night in search of its first win.
Anchored by running back Will Lecy and quarterback Jake Larson, the offense looked better in its second outing but still could not break a season-long scoreless streak as they lost to Algoma 48-0. Isaac Yunk wore down the Vikings' defense as he rushed for three scores and threw for another in the rout. The Vikings' have been searching for the endzone since the third quarter of last year's 52-22 win over Sevastopol. Since then, the Vikings have mustered just three points in the last 13 quarters.
The United followed up its three-overtime win over Algoma with a 24-0 loss to playoff participant Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas. Bryce Liebzeit and Reid Nelson were kept in check on the ground as they rushed for just 59 yards on 24 carries. Nelson threw for another 24 yards on 2-8 passing.
Tim Kowols will have the call from Oneida Nation High School on 105.1 The GOAT, 1051TheGOAT.com, and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening kick at 7 p.m.
