Isaac Yunk and the Algoma Wolves were too much for the Gibraltar Vikings in a 48-0 romp Friday night in Fish Creek.
The Wolves scored touchdowns on their first five possessions and six of their eight on the night. The first two touchdowns were set up by long passing plays from Lane Cochart to Parker Lischka, allowing Yunk to score from inside the five yard line both times. Lischka would finally be rewarded on the Wolves' third drive with a 65-yard touchdown catch and run. Yunk would cap off the first half scoring with a four-yard pass to Carson Leist to make it 40-0 at the break. With a running clock in the second half, Yunk's 30-yard rushing score on Algoma's first drive marked the game's final score.
The Vikings' second drive of each half showed promise but sputtered out in the end. In the first quarter, Will Lecy posted several long runs that put the Vikings inside the red zone only to turn the ball over on downs. In the third quarter, a pass from Anders Johnson to Beckett Johnson put the ball inside the five. The Wolves withstood the pressure and forced the fumble to stop the threat. The game ended on an interception by the Wolves' Jack Schwader to preserve the shutout.
The Vikings will try to break their eight-quarter scoreless streak to the start the season next Friday at Oneida Nation/NEW Lutheran. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com. The Wolves will try to go above .500 next Saturday at Three Lakes.
