Gibraltar battles Algoma, cancer on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings will battle a conference rival on the field and an even bigger foe off of it Friday night when they welcome the Algoma Wolves.

The Vikings struggled offensively against Almond-Bancroft's defense in their 52-0 loss last Thursday. They were held to less than 70 yards of offense with Will Lecy carrying the load with 26 yards on the ground and five through the air. Four players posted at least five tackles in the defeat, led by Giovanni Mercier's seven.

The Wolves suffered a heartbreaking 36-28 defeat to Oneida Nation/NEW Lutheran last Friday night. Lane Cochart threw for 123 yards and two scores on the night, but it was his interception in the third overtime that ended the night for the Wolves. Parker Lischka led the way running the ball with a  71 yards.

The game will serve as a benefit for the family of Braden Sitte, who graduated from Gibraltar in 2024 and was diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma weeks before he was to join his new football teammates at UW-LaCrosse. Proceeds from the concessions, silent auction, raffle baskets, bake sale, and other activities will support his ongoing treatments and associated costs. The activities begin at 6:30 p.m., with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

Tim Kowols will have the call from Fish Creek on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m. You can also catch the game on 1051TheGOAT.com and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.
