Gibraltar kicks off season at Almond-Bancroft on 105.1 The GOAT

The new-look Gibraltar Vikings will take the field for the first time Thursday night when they travel to Almond-Bancroft to take on the Eagles.

The Vikings made the playoffs last year, but an injury to Brady Kita derailed their passing game, leading them to lose three of their final four games, including a 52-0 defeat to eventual state champion Florence. Kita's decision to forgo his senior season and the graduation of Braden Sitte and Marshall Maltby means there are no first or second All-Peninsula Conference team performers on this year's squad. Will Lecy is back for his senior campaign after he earned honorable mention honors as a running back and linebacker, as is honorable mention defensive lineman Wyatt Bultman. Head Coach Mike Peck says quarterback Giovanni Mercier and wide receiver Beckett Johnson have played significant leadership roles on the young team, which will be more than a third freshmen.

In their fourth season of eight-man football, the Eagles went 8-2 last year as they saw their year-end against Oakfield in the first round of the playoffs. Emmitt Stiles returns for his junior season after rushing for 790 yards and ten touchdowns last year.

Tim Kowols will have the call from Almond-Bancroft on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the kickoff at 6:30 p.m. You can also tune in online at NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com and 1051TheGOAT.com
