Gibraltar begins final week of regular season with Algoma trip on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar Vikings boys' basketball team plays their final Packerland Conference game of the season on Monday with a trip south to face the Algoma Wolves.

The Vikings had no answers defensively last Friday when four different Sturgeon Bay Clippers broke double figures, and two others were within a basket as they rolled past them 87-68 in Fish Creek. Braden Sitte scored 20 points in each half to lead all scorers with 40 points in the contest. The Clippers would take a nearly 30-point lead late, but the Vikings got the deficit to below 20 points thanks to Jeffrey Mize scoring seven of his nine points late in the period and Liam Lindenberg hitting two more three-pointers to end his night with 10 points. They end the season with non-conference games at Menominee (MI) on Thursday and against Hilbert at home on Saturday. Head coach Travis Ward would like to see his team start playing their best basketball ahead of their opening-round matchup against Florence next week.

The Wolves will still have a game against Kewaunee later in the week on 104.1 WRLU as they try to get above .500 in Packerland play. They enter Monday's game on a three-game slide, losing to Peshtigo, Southern Door, and Kewaunee in consecutive contests. In their game against Sturgeon Bay, Algoma was led by Parker Lischka, who scored 21 points in a 54-43 loss. The Wolves will open their WIAA Tournament journey at Weyauwega-Fremont as the #10 seed.
