Gibraltar, Sevastopol renew girls' basketball rivalry

The Gibraltar Vikings and Sevastopol Pioneers will face off in a Door County girls' basketball rivalry game Friday night in Fish Creek.

The Vikings have come close with no cigars in their last two games since their win against NEW Lutheran. They led in their games against Crivitz and Oconto before eventually losing 55-52 to the Wolverines and 46-37 to the Blue Devils. Head coach Evan DeBroux says finishing games is something that has to come from the players in order to reverse their fortunes.

The Pioneers are off to a 6-0 start to their season, cruising past Southern Door and Sturgeon Bay before grinding out a 37-30 win over Algoma earlier this week. The Pioneers used a balanced attack in the victory, with three players scoring double figures. Katie Spude knocked down 13 points, Izzy Andreae scored 11, and Kayla Ranly added ten more. Head coach Ben Rikkola says graduation and an injury to Sam Herrell have forced them to try new things.

Tim Kowols and Eric Fischer will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 7:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7:30 p.m. The game will also be streamed on NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.
