Vikings boys look to ride OT win to conference play

With their first win under their belt, the Gibraltar Vikings boys' basketball team hopes it translate to the Packerland Conference when the host NEW Lutheran on Tuesday night.

 

Braden Sitte scored seven points in overtime to help the Vikings get their first victory of the season on Saturday, beating Wabeno-Laona 56-44. The two teams took turns outscoring each other 25-17 in the half, with the Vikings having to hold on to force overtime. The Vikings would not be denied the win, outscoring the Rebels 14-2 in the extra period. Sitte scored a game-high 26 points thanks to those extra seven points in overtime. Kayin Jackson and Marshall Maltby each scored nine points, and Jeffrey Mize chipped in seven points in the win.

 

Last Thursday, the Blazers fell to Algoma 54-45 in their Packerland opener. Grant Vandervest and Chase Romdenne chipped in a combined 22 points, canceling out the Blazers' top scorer, Sam Hillman, who had 19 points in the loss. Griffin Steffel was the only other Blazers player to score more than five points, adding nine points to the Blazers' effort.
