The Gibraltar Vikings hope the extra day was worth the wait when they welcome Montello to Fish Creek Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings hope to repeat as the Peninsula Conference champions after an 8-1 campaign ended at home last year against Lena/STAA as they limped into the offseason with several of their key players out with injuries. They will also have to do so with almost an entirely new line-up after 11 seniors graduated last year. With Brady Kita and Braden Sitte anchoring the offense, head coach Mike Peck still has high hopes for the 2023 season despite just having over a dozen players on the roster.
Montello will play their first season of eight-player football after combining with Green Lake/Princeton the last few years for 11-player football. All three schools involved in the former co-op team asked to go their separate ways to form their own teams after struggling a competitive team at the 11-player level.
