Gibraltar, Algoma share similar road on U 102.1

There are a lot of similarities between Gibraltar and Algoma's boys' basketball programs heading into their Friday matchup at the Fulwiler Fieldhouse.

Both teams have adjusted to having new head coaches slide over a few seats to take the reins of the program as Travis Ward spent a few years under Justin Burress' guidance at Gibraltar and Eric Schneider coached the junior varsity at Algoma for a decade before moving up to varsity. The coaches have been tasked with replacing 1,000-point scorers with Gibraltar's Sam Lindenberg and Algoma's Carter Zimmerman graduating last year.

Both programs are also heading into the second half of the season on a high note after the pair were able at least to slow down a potent Southern Door offense in losses. The Wolves (5-8) outscored Stockbridge 45-10 in the second half of their 78-30 win earlier this week. Kaden Vardon and Owen Robertson are each averaging more than 10 points on the season. The Vikings saw Jake Schar and Carl Burgess each score over 20 points as they beat Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday to improve to 3-9.

Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate will have the call on U 102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 7:15 p.m. followed by the opening tip at 7:30  p.m.
