Vikings boys sink Clippers on U 102.1

The Gibraltar Vikings started each half strongly and finished the game with a 67-58 win over Sturgeon Bay Tuesday night in Fish Creek.

The Vikings started hot out of the gate with a 7-0 lead early. Behind great three-point shooting from Calvin Richard and Isaak Aune, the Clippers were able to reel in the Vikings to keep the game close. Carl Burgess was able to knock down three three-pointers of his own to help give the Vikings a 35-33 lead at the break. The two teams combine to hit 11 shots from behind the arc in the first half.

The Vikings came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, going on an 8-0 run in the opening minutes of the second half to build a 10-point lead early. The Clippers would respond once again with Garrett Ulberg hitting a pair of threes and their defense denying the Vikings the ability to set-up an inside game. The Vikings were able to get to the free-throw line and hit their shot when they needed to keep the Clippers at bay for their third win of the season and their second in the Packerland Conference.

Jake Schar led the Vikings with a game-high 23 points and Carl Burgess added 20 points in the victory. Will Friedenfels scored 12 points including a pair on a dunk in the second half.

Aune scored 22 points to lead the Clippers in the loss while Richard scored thirteen points, with the two combining to hit eight shots from deep. Three others scored at least six points in the loss.

The Vikings will travel to Algoma on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game to air on U 102.1. The Clippers will be at home on Friday to welcome Kewaunee for a 7:30 p.m. game to air on 1033 The Clipper.
