Vikings boys battle back in loss to Oconto

The Gibraltar Vikings are showing the signs of an improving team even as they fell to the Oconto Blue Devils 67-61 on Thursday in Fish Creek.

After being down by 11 at halftime, the Vikings outscored their visitors 34-29 to narrow the gap before being forced to bow at the end.

Jake Schar had a break-out game after consecutive tough outings in conference games with a 26-point evening. Carl Burgess contributed 16 points and Braden Sitte chipped in 13 points, but Carter Koch (16 points) and Kadin Baxter (20 points) proved to be too much for the Vikings. The Blue Devils' combo combined for 36 points and set up Jackson Martin for his four three-pointers as he dueled the Vikings' Burgess and Schar from behind the arc.

Will Friedenfels scored six points in his second game back from injury.

The Vikings are back in action on Saturday when they face Sevastopol at 7:30 p.m.
