Peshtigo boys shuts down Gibraltar's offense on U-1021

The Peshtigo Bulldogs boys' basketball team used a combination of zone defenses and strong post-play to frustrate the Gibraltar Vikings in a 51-29 loss Tuesday night in Packerland Conference action.

The Vikings only made nine shots from the field in the game, which equaled the number of free throws they made in the contest. The two teams went back and forth early, but the Bulldogs' Kaine Fort and Will McMahon scored the team's first 12 points and combined to score 20 of the team's 29 points in the first half. As important as they were on offense, they were equally effective on defense. Fort forced the Vikings' Nathan Merkel and limited him to no points. McMahon matched up the Vikings' Jake Schar, who scored just eight points on the night on two made field goals and three free throws. Braden Sitte scored six points while Will Lecy, Carl Burgess, and Marshall Maltby each had four points in the loss.

Fort scored a game-high 17 points for the Bulldogs while Landon Beyer (12 points) and McMahon (10 points) each reached double figures.

The Vikings are now off until after the  New Year when they restart the season with a four-game homestand.
