The Gibraltar Vikings look to go further than any basketball team has ever gone in close to 50 years Thursday night when they travel to Elcho for a sectional semifinal matchup against Three Lakes.

 

Both teams have a trio of double-digit wins in the playoffs heading into the matchup with a sectional final date against either Newman Catholic or Columbus Catholic in Pulaski on the line. The Vikings have beaten Suring, Goodman/Pembine, and Gillett en route to Elcho, while Three Lakes toppled Wausaukee, Elcho, and Florence on their journey. Sam Eppler leads the Blue Jays with 15 points per game with a pair of 20 point performances so far in the playoffs. Sam Lindenberg has proven to be even more dangerous from the field, averaging over 22 points in a playoff contest.

 

This is the second time the Vikings have qualified for sectionals since their previous most successful season in 1974. They last made sectionals in 2019 when they lost to NEW Lutheran in Ashwaubenon. This is the most successful Blue Jays team since a 17-6 squad during the 2011-2012 school year.
