Lindenberg eclipses 1,000 points in Gibraltar win on 105.1 The GOAT

It was an emotional evening in Fish Creek on Monday as the Gibraltar boys' basketball team avenged an earlier season loss to Sturgeon Bay 71-45.

The Gibraltar and Sturgeon Bay basketball communities took time to honor the life of Jim Benesh, the former Clippers basketball and softball coach who passed away over the weekend after his battle with cancer. Benesh, who was a friend of Gibraltar basketball coach Justin Burress and Gibraltar baseball coach Jay Kita, had coached the Clippers since he took the reins in 1995 and was honored in the two teams' previous meeting after he learned he would be inducted into the WBCA Hall of Fame.

It was also Gibraltar's senior night as players like Sam Lindenberg played their last regular-season game at home. He made it a night to remember in the opening minutes of the game with the Vikings up 4-0 early:

The Vikings would extend that lead to 12 points heading into the break and never look back. Lindenberg scored a game-high 18 points while 13 different Vikings players scored at least one point in the game. Preston Newton led the way for the Clippers as he hit four three-pointers en route to a 15 point night.

The Vikings will conclude their regular season on Thursday in Algoma. That game can be heard on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com
