Vikings fall to Clippers in Packerland thriller on 105.1 The GOAT

The Gibraltar boys’ basketball team traveled to Sturgeon Bay to take on the Clippers in Packerland conference play on Tuesday night.

The night got off to an emotional start with the recognition of Clippers coach Jim Benesh for being selected to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

The Clippers came out of the gates hot and were able to turn defensive pressure into offense to make the game tied heading into the halftime break. The second half started off with a bang for the Clippers with Isaak Aune hitting a mid range jumper and two 3 point attempts to post 8 points in a matter of minutes in the second half. From there the Clippers would match any momentum that the Vikings had by beating the Vikings press, answering Gibraltar baskets with baskets of their own, and making their free throws in the closing seconds to take home a 60-57 win over the Vikings.

Gibraltar had three players in double figures led by Jake Schar with 16, followed by Sam Lindenberg with 15 and Trevor Ash with 10 off the bench.

Sturgeon Bay was led by Isaak Aune who had 19 and Preston Newton who added 13.

The Vikings will next be in action on Friday as they host Algoma in another Packerland Conference matchup.
