Gibraltar can't catch up to United on 105.1 The GOAT

The second time was not the charm for the Gibraltar Vikings as they lost to NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation/Providence Academy 31-20 Friday night in Institute.

United quarterback Peyton Ponfil got things started with a short sneak for the only touchdown of the first quarter to put them up 6-0. Ali Gbaja-Biamila would put the United up by 13 on a red-zone score before Sam Lindenberg found the endzone nearly 40 yards out to get the Vikings on the board. Marshal Bukowski would cap off the scoring in the first half with a three-yard touchdown to put the United up 19-6 at the break.

The United scored the only touchdown of the third quarter Ponfil found Nathan Puyleart from over 30 yards out to extend their lead. Gbaja-Biamila scored his second touchdown of the evening early in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach on a 33-yard grab. The Vikings refused to quit, going deep into their bench to score two times in the final frame. Luke Steebs found Jake Schar and Will Friedenfels for a pair of 40-plus yard scores to cap off the offensive night for the Vikings. The team was forced to play without two of their major contributors, Sam Lindenberg and Spencer Krause, for large portions of the game due to lower-body injuries.

The Vikings will have one more chance at a victory this season on May 1st when they play at Sevastopol as the road team against the Pioneers. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and the game will air on 105.1 The GOAT.
