Gibraltar High School

Second half dooms Vikings girls

The Gibraltar girls' basketball team saw its close deficit grow only larger in the second half, falling to NEW Lutheran 50-36.

The Vikings only trailed by two heading into the break as they got contributions from all five starters. The Blazers' defense was able to shut things down against the Vikings in the second half, allowing only Karlee Kita and Sage Krause to get baskets. Krause ended up scoring a team-high 15 points with three made three-pointers. Kita added another 12 points. The Blazers outscored the Vikings 28-16 in the second half thanks to Josie Nelson scoring 11 of her game-high 17 points after the break. Leah Schmidt pitched in nine points and Mattie Zimmer pitched in another eight points.

The Vikings will look to end their current two-game losing streak Friday night against Sevastopol. The Pioneers are also playing on a quick turnaround after defeating Sturgeon Bay Thursday night 59-42. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
