Gibraltar can't catch Newman Catholic on 105.1 The Viking

Newman Catholic's firepower proved to be too much for Gibraltar as they fell 61-25 in the second round of the WIAA Eight-Man Playoffs Friday night on 105.1 The Viking.

The Cardinals once again got off to a fast start, going up 21-0 in the first quarter thanks to two touchdown passes from Ben Bates and a rushing score by freshman Thomas Bates. Alex Laughlin would get the Vikings on the scoreboard in the second quarter from over 20 yards out to make it 21-6, but the freshman Bates would score three unanswered touchdowns to put the game even further out of reach. Laughlin would score again on the ground before Ben Bates capped off the final drive of the half with a nine-yard quarterback keeper. Laughlin would add two touchdowns in the third quarter including a 60-yard rushing score to open the second half, only to be matched by Newman Catholic each time.

Despite the final result, the Vikings still finished one game better than last year with an overall record of 8-3 while collecting its first-ever playoff win against Suring last week and its first conference championship in 45 years.
