The Gibraltar Vikings look to do something only the 2018 Sevastopol Pioneers have been able to do when they face Newman Catholic on Friday night in the second round of the eight-man football playoffs.

The Vikings are coming off their first playoff win in school history, dispatching Suring in a thrilling 30-28 victory while the Fighting Cardinals breezed past Marion/Tigerton 56-14 in its opening round matchup. The Fighting Cardinals are 31-1 in its eight-man football history, including last year's 61-46 win over the Vikings in the opening round of the inaugural eight-man playoffs. 

Both teams are proficient in their passing with the Fighting Cardinals and the Vikings both in the top 10 in passing yards, touchdowns, and yards per game. Unlike other pass-first teams in eight-man football, the Vikings will have to figure out how to stop a Fighting Cardinals rushing attack that is also ranked top 10 in the state.
