Gibraltar cross country hopes to pack big punch with small team

Despite only having about 10 runners out for the boys and girls teams combined this fall, Gibraltar cross country head coach Joy M. Bastian hopes they will still find some success this season.

Four boys and six girls will toe the line for Gibraltar when it hosts the Chief Kahquados Invitational Thursday afternoon. Bastian says despite the small team, the kids have been a joy to work within the season's infancy. Five of the six girls on the team are new to the sport while a leadership role usually reserved for upperclassmen is being seized by the team's sophomores, according to Bastian.

Featuring four races, the Chief Kahquados Invitational begins at 2 p.m. as the 5K course loops around Gibraltar's football and baseball fields as well as some time inside Peninsula State Park.
