Gibraltar wins second straight regional championship

It is a new division but it was the same result for the Gibraltar Vikings as they won their second straight WIAA Regional Championship Wednesday.

Now competing in Division 4, the Vikings clinched their sectional berth with an 11-3 victory over Crivitz.  A three-run double by Alex Laughlin started the scoring for the Vikings in the second inning. Crivitz would add a tally two innings later when Eric Hoyerman hit Dawson Andrist with the bases loaded. The Vikings would begin pouring it on in the top of the fifth when Brandon Stillman knocked in three runs with a double and Griffin Reinhardt drove in another on a single to make it 7-1. In the seventh inning, the Vikings would add on with a two RBI double by Samuel Lindenberg and a pair of runs off of balls getting passed the catcher with Laughlin at the plate. Crivitz would score twice in the bottom half of the seventh, but it was not enough to stop the Vikings. Eric Hoyerman, Luke Steebs and Samuel Lindenberg all pitched in the contest, striking out four and walking four.

The Vikings' next game will be held next Tuesday at Crivitz against Niagara at 1:30 p.m. The sectional championship would follow at 4 p.m. if they win.
