The Algoma softball team came up one win short of the WIAA State Tournament on Thursday, falling to Johnson Creek 8-0 in the sectional final.
The Buglass family did their part to ensure the Wolves heartbreak on the Blue Jays' home field. Leading 6-0 in the top of the sixth, Taylor Buglass homered to make it 8-0 for the final runs of the game. Tori Buglass had more than enough run support as she limited the Wolves to just three hits while striking out 12 across seven innings.
The Wolves' best chance to scratch across a run came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Natalie Ray doubled to put a player in scoring position for the only time in the game. Ryley Tweedy and Bristol Schmidt tallied singles while Macie Zimmerman was hit by a pitch for the only other base runners in the game for the Wolves.
Zimmerman took the loss in her final game for the Wolves, allowing eight runs (5 ER) on 13 hits and five walks while striking out five across seven innings.
The Wolves end their season 15-10.
