Two of Algoma's most decorated senior athletes made their collegiate plans official on Tuesday by National Letter of Intent for their respective schools.
Basketball player Braeden Leist will continue his athletic career at Lakeland University after All-Packerland Conference season that saw him finish in the top three on the Wolves in scoring (18.1 ppg), assists (3.5 apg), rebounds (6.4 rpg), and steals (1.8 ppg). Leist says he has always wanted to play college basketball at the next level and he is excited for the opportunity in Sheboygan.
Softball player Macie Zimmerman signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her career at St. Norbert College. Zimmerman has been one of the school's ace pitchers since she joined the team her freshman season, posting several no-hitters and perfect games. She is excited to join the Green Knights next year, but she has some unfinished business left to settle with the Wolves before she heads to De Pere for college.
Both athletes are still in the mix with their spring sports teams with Zimmerman pitching for the softball team on Friday at Southern Door and Leist suiting up for the baseball team at home against Sturgeon Bay on Friday. Both doubleheaders begin at 4:30 p.m.
