The Algoma Wolves and NEW Lutheran Blazers split a doubleheader on the baseball diamond Tuesday, with each team taking one on their home field.
Algoma took game one 7-0 behind a strong outing from Charlie Prokash, who tossed five scoreless innings and went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. The Wolves were aggressive on the bases all day, swiping seven stolen bases in the opener with Braeden Leist leading the way with four.
Game two was a different story. NEW Lutheran rallied from a 7-5 deficit to pull away 13-7. The Blazers jumped back in front in the third inning and didn't look back, getting the win from Zeke Frank who threw three and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief. Memphis Selissen and Eric Kim each had two hits, with Kim and Derrick Novoselatz each driving in two runs. NEW Lutheran also drew nine walks and stole five bases to keep the pressure on all game.
Cayden Neuzil had the big hit for Algoma in game two, a bases-clearing triple in the second that briefly gave the Wolves the lead.
Algoma is back in action Friday with a doubleheader against Sevastopol, with first pitch at 4:30 and game two at 6pm.
