Macie Zimmerman struck out 17 batters as the pitcher led Algoma past Sturgeon Bay 11-1 on Thursday. Zimmerman gave up one hit and one run over six innings while walking none.
The Wolves got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Zimmerman singled to center field, and Sturgeon Bay committed an error, each scoring one run.
Algoma scored one run in the bottom of the third on a solo home run to left field by Zimmerman.
Mackenzie Lischka homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth for the Wolves.
Schoeneman took the loss for Sturgeon Bay. The starting pitcher went four innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on six hits, striking out six and walking three.
Sadie Rikkola set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading the Wolves with three hits in four at bats. Mackenzie Lischka and Macie Zimmerman each drove in three runs. Sadie Rikkola stole two bases. The Wolves ran wild on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game.
G Austad went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.
Algoma will now travel to Sturgeon Bay for their next game on Thursday.
