Algoma Season Ends, Falling to Zephyrs on U102.1

On Friday night in Neenah, the Algoma Wolves would not trail for all but 3 seconds of the first half but would still see their season come to a close in Round 2 of the WIAA playoffs. They fell to St. Mary Catholic, 76-60.

Things at the start of the game went Algoma’s way. Parker Lischka had the first 5 points of the game. The Wolves fought off several runs by the Zephyrs thanks to hot shooting from behind the arc, making 9 first-half 3-pointers as a team, including three from Griffen Robinson.

The tide turned as the first half came to a close. The Wolves held a 40-38 lead as the Zephyrs brought the ball down the court. With 3 seconds to go, a kickout corner 3-pointer by Dylan Brenn put the Zephyrs up 41-40 at the half — and for good.

St. Mary Catholic opened the second half and blew the game open, finding hot hands behind the arc. Algoma, on the other hand, fell flat. Braden Leist fought through a lower-leg issue, and Parker Lischka struggled in the paint, often battling through contact. The Zephyrs’ offense was just too much to overcome.

The Zephyrs will now face Kewaunee in the regional championship, while the Algoma Wolves say goodbye to the basketball careers of their six seniors: Aiden Moen, Braeden Leist, Parker Lischka, Layne Cochart, Aiden Zeitler and Brogan Ray.
