It’s often said it’s hard to beat a team three times, but that’s exactly what Algoma did to Southern Door on Tuesday night on U102.1. The Wolves beat the Eagles 73-50 to advance and will now face No. 4-seeded St. Mary Catholic on Friday night.
After trading baskets to open the game, the Wolves jumped out to an early double-digit lead and never looked back. Even though the deep ball was working for the Eagles — who hit five 3-pointers in the first half — they still trailed 38-19 at the break. Griffen Robinson hit three 3-pointers of his own and led all scorers with 11 points in the half.
The second half was more evenly contested, though Algoma still won the half 35-31. The Eagles were led by 14 points each from Ryker Lohrey and Lauden Berg, including nine second-half points from Berg. Parker Lischka scored 10 points in each half to finish with 20, followed by Robinson with 13.
With the loss, Southern Door says goodbye to four seniors: Talon Mueller, Eli Jade, Landon Vandertie, and Lauden Berg.
Algoma will look to extend its quest for a state championship Friday night when it travels to face St. Mary Catholic. Coverage begins with a 6:45 p.m. pregame show and a 7 p.m. tipoff with Jacob Nate on U102.1 and the NEW Radio Sports Network.
