Wolves' season comes to an end in regional final

With just one day for the girls to prepare for top-ranked Manitowoc Lutheran, the Algoma Wolves faced a tough task in the regional final.

Back-to-back road games and a quick turnaround proved difficult to overcome, as the Wolves struggled to find consistent offense against the Lancers’ defensive pressure.

Algoma’s season came to a close with a 68-29 loss, as Manitowoc Lutheran showed why it holds the No. 1 ranking.

Mikiah Krause and Marissa Melhorn each scored 13 points in the first half, equaling Algoma's output as a team as the Lancers entered the locker room with a 43-13 halftime lead. The duo finished the game with 20 and 17 points respectively. The Wolves' Claire Gerdmann was the lone player to hit double figures with 11 points. Lauren Loucks added eight points and Sadie Rikkola pitched in six points in the loss.

The Lancers advance to face Kewaunee in a sectional semifinal Thursday.

A final shoutout goes to the Algoma senior class, whose leadership and contributions have left a lasting impact on the program.
