The Algoma Wolves girls basketball team closed the gap, but enough to tip Brillion in a 44-41 loss on Monday night.
The Lions outscored the Wolves 22-16 in the opening frame thanks in part to 11 first-half points by Kaitlyn Schuman. Jadyn Nellis led a comeback in the second half as she scored 13 of her team-high 18 points as the Wolves outscored the Lions 25-22 after the break.
Sadie Rikkola complemented Nellis with 15 points, but it was not enough to overcome Schuman's game-high 24 points and three other Lions players scoring at least four points.
The Wolves are back in action Tuesday evening when the host the Sheboygan Falls Falcons. Led by Makenzie Schroeder (15.5 ppg) and Lilly Gahagan (8.8 ppg), the Falcons are coming off a 69-24 victory over Roncalli, which evened their record at 2-2. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
